I pulled it off! I got all of our costumes done on time and managed to set up a photo shoot! I'm finding that, as my kids get older, I have a bit more time. When I work up this morning, I scrolled through my Facebook memories. There were years that I didn't have the time or energy to even dress up! Great times though. It also reminds me of how quickly children grow. I'm glad that I took the time to grab some photos of us celebrating Halloween each year. Here are just a few from the last several years.
Since I had the time, this year, I decided that I could not only capture the memory, but take it a step further and create some art from it. I took inspiration from the Pan movie posters, and my own stock of images. I initially thought it would be impossible to create my own backdrop of a magical place like Neverland. Then, I remembered that I have been to a magical place before: Kauai! There is a reason why Kauai is a popular place to film movies. The scenery absolutely defies imagination, and most of it is not marred by modern infrastructure. My husband took me (by surprise) for our tenth anniversary. It was amazing! We happened to take a sunset cruise, which allowed me to capture some great shots from the water. I chose one of them to make the perfect Neverland backdrop.
My goal was to make our family look like the protectors of Neverland. Peter Pan holds the hands of the lost boys because he is dedicated to ensuring their safety. His friends, Tiger Lily and James Hook flank him, ready to fight to the death! Of course, I had to put together a few individual shots as well. It was so much fun to complete my Halloween project this year. Which photo is your favourite? I would love to know what you think!
