There are so many different reasons for booking a styled portrait session like this.

Anyone who wants to leverage their personal brand with exceptional headshots loves the stress-free process of getting a library of marketing images that are on-brand and help them stand out in a saturated market.

Many of my clients just want to do this for themselves and don’t need a reason while others want to surprise their partner with a gift for a special birthday, anniversary, or wedding day. 

I have many clients who book a session to celebrate a milestone, like turning 40, 50, 60! 

Some of my clients have been through a negative experience such as illness or a bad relationship and they want to mark the end of this with a real confidence boost. 

A few of the ladies I have photographed have lost weight and want to capture their new figures while others have reached a point in their lives where they are at one with themselves and how they look and want to celebrate this (I love this reason!).

Professional hair and makeup are ALWAYS included in my sessions.

Some clients are skilled in styling their own hair and applying their own makeup and wish to do this themselves. 

This is absolutely fine.

We can discuss this during your consultation. 

I do, however, recommend opting for my hair and makeup artist for two reasons. 

First, you can relax and have a chat with us while you mentally prepare for your shoot.

Secondly, their techniques and products are perfect for the camera and will leave you looking flawless and radiant!

It is completely normal and understandable to be anxious about being photographed.

However, from start to finish we are focused on ensuring you are as comfortable and relaxed as possible.

Most of my clients are very nervous but they all say that they felt immediately better after meeting me and my team.

Your session will take place at my studio in northwest Calgary.  

I have a garment rack, ready to hang all of your outfits, and a private washroom for you to change in.  

Parking is easy in my residential neighborhood, you can even park on my driveway!

Most people bring 5-8 outfits.

Depending on how quickly you can change, we can photograph them all!

That depends if you're here for a Custom Session or a Condensed Session.

For a Custom Session, expect to be in my studio for 3-5 hours.

It all starts with a gorgeous makeover, followed by a portrait session with a variety of backgrounds and outfit changes, and then we'll do an immediate reveal so you can choose the images you want to include in your collection.

Here's what a more detailed breakdown looks like:

Hair and makeup - 1 to 1.5 hours

Photoshoot - 1 to 1.5 hours

Reveal & Order - 1 hour 

 For a Condensed Session, expect to be in my studio for up to 2 hours.

Occasionally I offer a day for back-to-back condensed sessions.  It's all still the same Laurie MacBrown experience, but condensed for the busy professional who wants an expedited experience without compromising on quality. 

While most people choosing a condensed session are looking for headshots, you can also choose to do boudoir or legacy portraits too!  

Here's what a detailed breakdown of a condensed session looks like:

Hair and makeup - 1 hour

Photoshoot - 30-45 minutes

Reveal & Order - 15 minutes

It's important to note that for condensed sessions, your time will potentially overlap with someone booked before and/or after you.

During our consultation, you can let me know which type of session you'd prefer and I can go into more details on the differences between them.

Of course! In fact, this can be a fabulous girl’s day out. We can do back-to-back sessions to capture you both individually and together.  

If you would like to include a partner and/or small kids, I recommend doing the makeover and first part of the session alone, and then bringing your partner and/or kids for the last 15 minutes. 

Let's face it, husbands and kids have less staying power, and I want you to have the best of both worlds: portraits that you love AND a stress-free, fun experience!

I am a mom who wants to be there for my family, so I work while they are in school.  I only offer midweek sessions.

You take time off for the doctor and dentist after all, and this is a special occasion!  Treat yourself!

At this time, 100% of my sessions will be at my NW Calgary studio.

I work with a professional makeup artist who not only tailors the makeup to your face and skin, she's amazing at listening to exactly what you want. 

Before she's done, she'll make sure that you feel like the most beautiful person in the world! It's so important to work with an artist who specializes in camera-ready makeup.

She knows exactly the right application to help you look great on camera and she'll even include glamourous false lashes if you want to really go for it!

Boudoir is even easier than headshots for figuring out what to wear.  It can be intimidating at first, but you'll see that you don't need much!

You can get a lot of variety out of 1 or 2 looks, and there are many non-clothing items that we can use to hide or reveal parts of your body for an "implied nude" look.  I can show you many examples during our Zoom Design Consultation after you book!

From there, any digital images you order will be delivered within 10 business days.

Custom wall art, prints, and albums, will take 6-8 weeks after you've let me know that you're happy with the retouching on your digital portraits.

I carefully inspect everything and repackage it so that when you pick it up from my studio, you can be sure that it has passed quality control!

Images are purchased separately, but the session fee always includes professional hair and makeup and at least 1 image, depending on the type of session you choose.

While you're changing back into your street clothes, I'll load the images onto my computer and we can start reviewing them to select your favourites right away.

I'm here to guide you and answer all of your questions during the selection process.

Showing your images to you is probably my favourite part!

I call it the Reveal & Order session, and it happens immediately following your portrait session.

We'll review all of your images together and go through the process of selecting your favourites to include in your collection.

I can answer all of your questions and help you choose the best of the best!

Put simply, I would not be giving you the best possible service if I did this. 

I specialize in final image presentation and love to create something special and unique for you.

I can only do this if we are together.

It's all part of the experience.

Not only will I show you samples, but I will also guide you through the process and help you decide on the best way to display your gorgeous photographs. 

It is a great experience and there are often happy tears! 

Rest assured that there is NO hard sell during this Reveal and Order session.

I only want you to buy what you love!

Most of my clients come alone.  They trust my expert eye and know what they want.  Between us, we narrow down to the best images and they buy what they love.

However, you may have a trusted friend or partner you'd like to include, so be sure to prepare them before this appointment. 

They have not been through this amazing experience and may not understand the value if you don't tell them. 

This is an investment in your legacy and/or your business. 

Make sure they understand what that means to you. 

This is supposed to be a fun and empowering experience, so only include someone who will share your excitement!  

They need to be available to be here in person, or over FaceTime.

While you don't need to know EXACTLY what you want beforehand, it certainly helps to have an idea of how you want to display your images and what is going to fit your budget.

The more you share with me at your consultation, the more prepared I'll be to capture what you need.  

For example, if you're hoping for a gorgeous wall art series, it really helps to know what your wall space looks like.  What colour is your wall?  Is the space large or small?  Is the wall narrow or wide?  What style is the decor in your home? All of these things could determine how I photograph you, in terms of what you're wearing, the backdrop I choose, the composition and aspect ratio, and the finish.  The time we spend planning this in advance will greatly improve the results and you'll get exactly what you're looking for. 

If you're not sure what you want, that's okay too - I will capture lots of different looks for you to choose from.  Just be prepared to love them all!

Larger pieces receive an extra level of attention to detail to remove any small distractions that are not noticeable on smaller prints.

This type of retouching is completely done by hand without filters, for the most realistic and beautiful finish possible.
