Hallowe'en theme chosen... CHECK!
Ready-made costume pieces purchased.... CHECK!
Fabric, patterns and supplies purchased... CHECK!
Time to get to work. Netflix, Facebook, and Instagram all need to go away or I will never have these costumes done by Halloween!
If you read the previous blog post, you know that I have taken on the monumental task of outfitting FIVE people in costumes for a relatively obscure movie. I bought everything I could, but there was no chance of avoiding the sewing machine. I even had to break out some serious hand-sewing skills for this project, and a glue gun! Do they give out awards for stuff like this? I feel like this should all culminate with a trophy and a bottle of champagne or something... Just throwin' it out there....
So, there are two sewing projects to cover: Tiger Lily's shirt, and a set of Lost Boy pajamas.
Let's start with the jammies. I'm looking to make boys pajamas from the Edwardian era. In modern times, these would be considered fairly "dressy", so they are usually quite nice-looking if you buy them ready-made. For this set of pajamas, they are supposed to belong to an orphan. They are not meant to be perfect, crisp and clean. For this reason, I decided to use an old topsheet to construct the pj's and then coffee-stain them when they were done to make them look even more worn. I have put together a short video to show you how it all went down.
Next is the most exciting part: creating a custom shirt for Tiger Lily. Watch this video to see how I created the perfect costume using some material I already had and a whole lot of accessories!
I hope you enjoyed watching how I made the custom pieces for our Halloween costumes. Check back for my final blog post where we do the photo shoot and you can see how everything turned out!
