I am a proud member of 100 Women Who Care Calgary. It is a charitable organization that was started 3 years ago by my twin sister, Alison Lapczuk, and our friend Christy Parker. They are two women who take action on great ideas and inspire those around them to help make a difference. If you haven't heard of it, the 100 Women Who Care movement is simple: Get 100 women together for 1 hour, have each of them write a cheque for $100 to the same local charity, and BOOM - together you have just raised $10,000 for a cause that is close to you, both emotionally and physically.
Side benefits?
There are >2000 registered charities in Calgary, most of which I've never heard of.... until I went to a 100 Women Who Care meeting!
Hanging out with 100 women drinking wine and snacking on hors d'hoeuvres = not a bad way to spend an hour away from my husband and kids.
Oh, and guess what happens when your membership numbers exceed 100? Well, you raise a hell of a lot more for charity, and that just feels great! Our last several recipients have walked away with >$20,000!
Not surprisingly, Alison and Christy have caught the attention of the media. They have appeared on television and radio, promoting 100 Women Who Care. This year, they were both chosen by the Fashion Calgary Portrait Campaign to be featured among the top 30 Ambassadors who are shaping the cultural scene of Calgary. Also nominated, along with her KISS 95.9 morning show partner is 100 Women's hilarious and beautiful master of ceremonies, Billie Jo! I was fortunate enough to attend the gala with these ladies to celebrate their special night. This year's gala is raising money for Kids Cancer Care.
Since it was a special occasion, and we would all be getting dressed up, I wanted to capture some portraits of us and our hubbies before the event. Every time we look back at these, we will remember this special evening and the great time we had!
Please join me at the next quarterly meeting of 100 Women Who Care Calgary. You can download this app to your mobile device (save to your Homescreen) so that you know when and where the next meeting is - it will even give you Google Map directions!
