If you want to know how to figure out what to wear for your photo session, it's easier than you think!
I promise!
I'll show you how to find things in your own closet to wear for your portrait session in my studio.
When you come to my Calgary studio for a glamourous makeover and photoshoot, I ask you to bring 8-10 outfits. You are a multi-faceted person, and it's my goal to capture as many aspects of your personality as I can for you. From jeans and a t-shirt to full-on ball gowns and tulle, you can have it all!
But where to start....?
Jeans! Everyone has a favourite pair, so grab those first.
Next, have a look at your wardrobe and without overthinking it, grab two datenight-worthy tops. One that's dark and one that's light if you can.
You know that dress you bought, even though you didn't have the occasion to wear it yet, but it was just too gorgeous to leave behind?
THIS is the perfect time to break that out of the closet!
I specialize in magazine-style portraits and magazine-style editing.
This is your best opportunity to LOOK and FEEL like a Covergirl, so bring your best dress (okay, maybe two!).
Next, choose two layering tops. I'd recommend one formal and one that's comfortable.
There are so many fun layering tops to choose from:
- jean jackets
- blazers
- sweaters
- cardigans
- kimonos
- ponchos
- bomber jackets
- leather jackets
Stay authentic to you. The more comfortable you are wearing it, the more confidence will project to my camera.
Now that you have your favourite jeans, two datenight tops, one or two dresses and two layering tops, it's time to fill in the gaps.
Add the pants, skirts and tops that are going to round out the outfit.
Lastly, is the step that will absolutely make or break the outfits that you've selected.
And, this is the time where you might want to consider shopping.
Undergarments!
Bras that aren't adequately supportive can make you look heavier than you are. And some tops may require a strapless or even a stick-on bra to achieve the right look. Don't skip this step if you want amazing photos of yourself.
If you ended up with too many outfits and you need some help editing them down, we can do that on your Zoom Design Consultation call via Zoom!
I love helping my clients decide what to wear, and if you've already got it narrowed down, it's easier to pick out the top looks. I can also start envisioning how I will pose you in those outfits and it gets my creative juices flowing!
Worst case, just bring your whole closet and we'll grab what we need during your session!
On the other hand, maybe you didn't find enough in your closet to make you feel confident about your portrait session.
I can help you too!
I have a studio wardrobe collection of pieces that you can borrow (ie: my famous black tulle skirt, the goddess drape, a variety of dresses, etc)
I hope these tips helped!
