Fall is undoubtedly the busiest season for family portrait sessions. Christmas is around the corner and we all want to have at least one current photo of our family to add to the holiday card. Portraits also make great gifts for relatives who don't need another foot massager. Who doesn't love a timeless portrait of a loved one?
After all the leaves have fallen and the snow starts to fly, it might seem like the opportunity has passed. I want to tell you that it's not too late and I have 3 reasons I'd like to share with you as to why I LOVE to photograph families after the fall season.
1. Shorter Days - What? Who likes that?!? I DO. Some of the most beautiful light occurs close to sunrise and sunset. That means I can photograph you outdoors in gorgeous light at 8:30 am instead of 6:00am. Win-win. Everyone loves a bit of extra sleep ;)
2. Great Locations Are Not as Busy - Ever gone to Confederation Park on a Sunday in late September? It gets a little busy... Definitely a challenge to get a clean background when there are dozens of photographers and families all around you. On a brisk winter morning? Just the dog-walkers are out. And they are moving - out of the way (hopefully).
3. The Uniqueness Factor - When everyone else is doing fall portraits in the park with leaves on the ground, why not do something different? Snow can change the landscape completely.
When was the last time you had a family portrait done? Has anyone changed since then? If the answer is yes, then what are you waiting for?
