For those of you who have been reading this blog series, we are one-third of the way through now!
It's a great time to celebrate our first Top Ten!
What is 30 Days of Gorgeous anyways?
My intention with this campaign is to feature the everyday woman the way she dreams of.
Hair, makeup, photoshoot with multiple looks.
It's like being a model for a day, for an age group that is typically NOT asked to model.
I specifically asked for women aged 35-55 years old to apply to be featured in 30 Days of Gorgeous.
This is an age group that is way too often forgotten.
They are mothers, daughters, sisters, friends, professionals; they hide behind the camera, put everyone and everything else FIRST; they haven't had a beautiful photo taken of them in a LONG time (if ever).
I asked women to nominate themselves or a loved one to be featured as one of the thirty women in 30 Days of Gorgeous. I had a few rules though. I think every woman deserves to be photographed, at every stage of her life.
For THIS project, I wanted to find the Calgary women who had maybe stopped existing in photographs. So, I asked for women aged 35-55.
I asked them questions about beauty, being a woman and what this experience would mean for them. I was flooded with applications - so many that it was a bit overwhelming. I heard stories of heartache, loss, sickness and insecurity. But, I was also uplifted by stories of self-acceptance, confidence, victory and pride. I knew before it started that this project would be powerful. As women, we put our families, friends and career ahead of ourselves so much that we can lose who we are. We identify as a mother, a caregiver, a professional, ...
For ONE day, I want each woman to feel like the most important person in the world: NUMBER ONE. Period.
A woman who can stand on her own, who has her own identity, thoughts, opinions, feelings. Who can exist and be beautiful all on her own. Wear what makes her feel beautiful, be pampered like she deserves and hold in her hands a set of beautiful portraits to remind her that she is worth it.
Meet the first ten beautiful women who said YES to this experience:
Janet is a single mother who said: "By the end of the session, I felt like the woman that I envision for myself (not the tired old woman that stares back at me from the mirror).";
Nancy had lost sixty pounds, but still never liked how her arms looked in photos (until now),
Tina T. said she's always been the "fat girl",
Arianne is on a journey of self-discovery to help other women be seen, heard and live empowered lives;
Persa is a new mom who is struggling to deal with post-baby body,
Lancette struggled with her self esteem since she was bullied at 7 years old,
Sara is a working mom of 3 who lives far from her support network,
Tina R. was nominated by a friend,
Lindsay has a passion to teach women to truly love themselves exactly as they are,
Trish is finally acknowledging her struggle with anxiety and depression.
These are the Top Ten Most Gorgeous women in Calgary!
