Let me tell you about a request I got this year that made me feel super special and honoured.
I am an accredited member of the Professional Photographers of Canada (PPOC). It is a national organization in which professional photographers network with each other, hone photography skills and compete both nationally and provincially. The PPOC has local chapters who meet once a month to discuss all kinds of photography topics, usually with an educational intent. The December meeting of the PPOC has evolved into a Christmas celebration with a small gift exchange, dessert potluck and headshots. As photographers, some of us rarely have our photo taken by another professional, so two experienced photographers are requested to take on the task of providing headshots for all of the members who would like one. One of these photographers sets up a white background (high key) and the other sets up a black background (low key). This year, I was very honoured to be asked to take the high key portraits!
About a year ago, I did a series of high key portraits for 100 Women Who Care Calgary. They worked out so well, and I got a consistent, professional look that I decided to go with the same set-up for the PPOC. Here are my colleagues new headshots. Super fun night. I made a super amateur mistake by forgetting my backup batteries, but luckily I had a spare set in my light meter. More than a little embarrassing, but I got all my shots and my friends only razzed me a little for it. ;) It truly was a highlight of 2017 for me. I would do it again in a second! Isn't this a great looking group!
