If you've been eyeing the Fabulous Over 40 portrait experience but find yourself hesitating, you're not alone. Many of my clients had questions, doubts, and even a few fears before stepping in front of the camera. This blog post is for you—the woman who’s done her research and still wonders, “Is this really for me?”
Let’s break down the most common myths and concerns I hear from smart, skeptical, thoughtful women (like you) who are intrigued by this experience but haven’t booked yet.
MYTH #1: "It sounds amazing... but can one person really deliver all of this?"
Yes, I am the heart and soul behind Laurie MacBrown Photography—and that means you’re not just a number in a system. I limit the number of women I photograph so I can give every single one the attention, care, and quality experience they deserve.
From your first consult to the gala spotlight, I’m there. I also have a team of pros I trust (from makeup artists to printing partners), and every step is backed by systems I've refined through years of experience.
MYTH #2: "The exhibit and gala seem beautiful, but is this just an artsy side project?"
The Fabulous Over 40 campaign is more than a project—it's a movement. It has a big, bold mission: to shift how women over 40 see themselves. It's a revolution to shape and inspire conversation around age and beauty. Yes, it’s creative. But it’s also highly organized. I map out the timeline, handle every detail (with help!), and treat the gala with the same precision and professionalism as I do your portraits.
The exhibit is there for the public to start to shift how they perceive women over 40, and the gala is your chance to meet your fellow participants, and show off to your friends and family that you are indeed a work of art! Let your loved ones celebrate with you, I promise it's not vain to be the centre of attention for once! You deserve it!
MYTH #3: "Will I really feel empowered... or is that just marketing fluff?"
That word empowered gets tossed around a lot, doesn’t it? But here's what past clients say: this experience gave them a chance to see themselves through a whole new lens. The transformation isn't in the makeup or poses—it's in finally being witnessed as feminine, beautiful, and worthy, without having to change a thing. It's about embracing your scars as part of your story, and being proud of who you are.
And if you don’t feel empowered? That’s okay too. There’s no script here. No one expects you to come out of this weeping with joy. I'm here to create a customized experience for you to be photographed the way you always dreamed of. You just have to show up. I take care of the rest.
MYTH #4: "It starts at $495 but ends up costing $6000+? That feels like a bait-and-switch."
I hear you. Transparency matters. The $495 session fee covers your planning consult, professional hair and makeup, your custom portrait session, and a ticket to the gala. It does not include any images. If you fall in love with your portraits (most clients do), collections begin at $3000. There’s no pressure to spend beyond that. And if you do choose a collection, you get a bonus image valued at $500 as a thank-you.
You’re always in control of what you spend. I’m here to guide, not push.
MYTH #5: "I love the idea, but I don’t see many women who look like me in your marketing."
That’s fair—and something I’m actively working to change. This experience is for all women over 40, regardless of age, race, size, or background. I celebrate all forms of beauty. If you haven’t seen yourself represented yet, let’s change that. Your story matters.
MYTH #6: "After the gala, then what? Do I just go back to normal life?"
You can if you want to. But many women stay connected, come back for future sessions, or join my VIP Facebook group where the celebration continues. This experience often becomes the spark that leads to other transformations. It doesn’t have to end after the gala—unless you want it to.
Still wondering if this is the right fit?
Let’s talk. Schedule a free, no-pressure consult. I’ll answer every question, honestly. No scripts. No pushiness. Just real talk about what this could look like for you.
Because your story deserves to be seen, celebrated, and remembered.
