The thought of doing a boudoir session can be intimidating for anybody.
Maybe you’re intrigued by the idea but afraid of how you’d look, afraid you’re not thin enough, young enough, or hot enough to look sexy.
Maybe you’re afraid that a camera trained on your nearly naked body will only highlight the parts of yourself you’re insecure about.
It can be hard to feel good about yourself and your body when the media is constantly telling you that you need to lose weight, look young, etc.
But you are beautiful just as you are, and a boudoir session is a great way to prove that to yourself.
Here are three reasons why plus-sized women should give boudoir a chance.
1) Change the way you see yourself.
Boudoir is all about seeing yourself from a new perspective and recognizing your natural beauty that others see in you.
It’s always been there, even if you can’t see it. Maybe you’ve avoided being in photos because there are parts of your body that you wish looked different.
But a talented and experienced photographer can highlight your beauty and make you see yourself in a whole new light.
2) Love your body.
When you work with a professional photographer you trust, you’ll be amazed at how great you look. They’ll know how to light you perfectly and direct you into the most flattering poses. A boudoir session allows you to highlight the parts of your body that you love—and maybe even discover new appreciation for parts of your body that you’ve always felt insecure about.
3) Empower yourself and prove your self-worth.
You don’t have to be super skinny to do boudoir, and you don’t have to be a model to look absolutely stunning.
You are gorgeous just as you are and worthy of love and respect, including love from yourself.
Boudoir can be such a liberating and empowering experience, helping you to truly embrace yourself for who you are.
Keep reading for Heather's story about wanting to feel gorgeous even though she's not a size 0.
When Heather came to my studio, she had recently had a boudoir photography experience with another boudoir photographer.
The package she purchased from him included hundreds of images, but she struggled to find any that she even liked.
I knew her experience in my studio would be completely different.
Before we met, Heather told me that her fear was that she wouldn't like what she sees.
She said "I'd like to FEEL beautiful for a change. And show the world that "gorgeous" doesn't mean being a supermodel!"
"After 2 kids and far too many years of not looking after ME, I no longer like what I see in the mirror.
In my mind, I still remember that girl in her late teens, who was active, thin, and had potential.
Now I see too many extra pounds, that dreaded double chin, and the abundance of gray hairs I constantly try to keep covered.
The stress of being a single mom, building a career, while raising kids with no support system."
Heather needed to transform the way she sees herself, boost her confidence and give herself the gift of feeling beautiful.
Bonus - she also had a lot of fun!
We had a great time treating Heather like a celebrity.
We made sure that she loved her hair and makeup and my stylist stayed on set throughout the session to ensure that her look stayed on-point between outfit changes.
I listened to what Heather wanted and kept those things in mind while I was photographing her.
At her Reveal, she had a tough time narrowing down her selections and ended up choosing 10 portraits that she absolutely LOVES.
"They look amazing! I'm excited to start sharing them. Thank you so much!"
